The next Annual Meeting of the RSC Spectroscopy and Dynamics Group will be held at St. Catherine's College, Oxford, from the evening of Sunday 5 January until mid-afternoon on Tuesday 7 January 2014. The meeting plays an important role in maintaining the vitality of the UK spectroscopy and dynamics research community, and provides a key forum for the younger members of the community (graduate students and postdocs) to present their work and to interact with one another and with more senior researchers. Most of the oral presentation slots at the conference are given over to younger researchers, but several established researchers from the UK and overseas are also invited to give stimulating plenary lectures on cutting-edge topics.

Confirmed invited speakers to date are:

        Martina Havenith, Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum, Germany
        David Carty, Durham University, UK
        Mark Johnson, Yale University, USA

Accommodation and Travel

St. Catherine's College St. Catherine's College is the youngest undergraduate college in Oxford. The Danish architect Arne Jacobsen designed everything in the original college, right down to the furniture and cutlery. Jacobsen's original buildings have been supplemented with three new residential blocks, built in the early 1990s and in 2004. The college has 250 modern ensuite rooms, together with excellent conference and catering facilities.

On the first evening of the meeting, the college will still officially be closed for the Christmas and New Year break. While accommodation for both nights will be in the college, we will not have use of the dining hall and lecture theatre on the first evening. Instead, the evening meal will be provided at the University Club, and the tutorial lectures will be held in the Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory lecture theatre. A map of the various venues can be found here.

St. Catherine's College is around a 20-30 minute walk or ten minute taxi ride from Oxford's railway and bus stations. As many of you will be aware, parking is a perennial problem in Oxford, and unfortunately parking is not available on site at St. Catherine's. If you are planning on driving to the meeting, information on car parking in Oxford can be found here.
